Tony Stark faces Marv in our Comic Book Universe
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the blacksmith smash hit Iron Man has a sequel in the workshop. Hammering the box office e and receiving shining reviews from the majority of critics. The film also launched the repeatedly accolade worthy Robert Downey Jnr (Chaplin, Restoration) into a higher star power reserved for the elite talent.
Recently several cast members were announced as either signing on in negotiatations for parts, they include:
Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury
Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer
Emily Blunt as Black Widow
Don Cheadle as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes
The most interesting of all the names on the roster is that of enigmatic presence Mickey Rourke (Angel Heart, Buffalo 66, Animal Factory). Rumoured to befalling on the side of evil villainy, the majority of speculators can visualize the Oscar nominee in the role of the Crimson Dynamo.
In an interview on MTV.com this week Robert Downey Jnr swiftly quashes that assumption. When quizzed on the set of Guy Ritchies new Sherlock Holmes film, the former Charlie Chaplin imitator says:
“That’s actually incorrect,” Downey told MTV News when asked if Rourke was being considered for the aforementioned Iron Man rogue. When pressed if, instead of Crimson Dynamo, Rourke was up for the role of Whiplash, another potential role bandied about on blogs these days, Downey had a more cryptic response.
“I can neither confirm nor deny that,” said Downey. “Or maybe it’s some semblance of both. Here, I can tell you everything about the story except I won’t give away the ending. The nerd stuff is top-drawer security.”

So who it is could be anyone’s guess. Imdb.com lists him in the part of Whiplash/Ivan. Now some blogs say it could be Titanium Man, or perhaps even a completely original nemesis.
I can’t help but be intrigued by how these two maverick thespians will behave on set and the onscreen chemistry they could generate. As great artists do,both are obsessively committed to their craft. Each one carries heavy psychological baggage and a compulsive, addictive personality. Time in rehab and prison cells, analysis’s offices and violent attacks on authority figures have also been shared.
Won’t be dull, so who do you think Rourke should play?
