Voltron: Defender of the Universe Preview

From Variety.com, news that New Regency is putting together the upcoming Voltron film with screenwriter Justin Marks.
Justin Marks is getting the green light to write the Voltron script as well as the script for the upcoming He-Man movie. How does a guy get into that job? Was he playing with his He-Man and Voltron action figures out on his Beverly Hills mansion porch, and the studio execs drove by and said 'That's our man!'?
The Voltron that I know is the one that was a giant robot formed out of 5 smaller robot lions. I've said it before, but it bears repetition: Guys my age are easily swayed anytime smaller robots combine to form a bigger robot. It was a well-tested concept in the 80s with Transformers, Orbots, and Go-Bots.
While the adaptation of Transformers killed a tiny part of me, this Voltron film leaves me ambivalent... I didn't watch it on TV very often, as something better was always on. Plus, there's only so many robot names that'll fit in a young boy's mind.
Like the comic book adaptation that ran rampant in the early 2000s, it looks like all our 80s and 90s cartoons will be mined for guaranteed box office profits. I wouldn't mind so much, if they actually gave us real movies, and not generic 'Save-the-World' plots with brand name toys attached.
Yes, the cartoons were that shallow. They were a flimsy marketing ploy to push action figures. We all see that now. But we've all grown up... let the movies grow up, too.
And no, I'm not talking about robot nudity. You've got a filthy, filthy mind.

Besides, at this point, the poor princess... let's just say it wasn't supposed to be played with in the bath tub.
