There Will be Blood - getting closer
Director Paul Thomas Anderson has established himself as a cinema auteur who finds the humanity beneath the surface of his characters. A grandiose style that balances colour and light against a mood setting soundtrack and complex characters becoming epics in by their conclusion.
His latest opus is already being hailed as a classic that harks back to the glory days of moving picture entertainment. Based on the sweeping novel Oil written by Upton Sinclair, There Will be Blood is set around the birth of American capitalism and a ruthless pioneer driven by greed.
Tackling issues of family, religion and financial morality the film stars Daniel Day Lewis as the ambitious tycoon who is corrupted by money and power when he strikes it big with the discovery of an abundant Oil mine.
Not scheduled for Australian release till February 9th 2008, fortunately the trailer and a few clips are now available to quench the painful viewing anticipation that remains unsatisfied.

Starting with the under discussed gem Hard Eight, Anderson moved onto the porn disco delight Boogie Nights and introspective Magnolia. A trifecta that cemented the boisterous Directors reputation and guaranteed he receive a substantial budget and artistic freedom in his endeavours. Punch Drunk Love may be the only worthwhile Adam Sandler movie ever made, but it didn’t aspire or meet his established high standard.
Bring on the blood!
