A few weeks back I reported on a new identity crisis thriller that is generating some positive buzz called the Nines. (Click HERE to find out more).

Well over at ifilm.com they have put up the opening 9 minutes of the film. Combined with the trailer I can officially say that this has the tantalizing potential to engross while it screws with the mind.

No Australian release date has been scheduled.

I really think this movie looks unsubstantial. It films like it has a hook, and that's it, kind of like Momento. A concept to keep you engaged through one viewing, and then if you see it again it is slightly vacuous. Though I won’t deny that films like Momento or the Sixth Sense are initially engaging, I think that they signal a shift in subversive cinema that is not positive. It’s a shift to a less intellectual and avant-garde kind of cinema. (Maya Deren shifts in her grave of wet sand, broken glass and ruined chess games)
