Sarah Palin has a strange view of the First Amendment

Ah, Sarah Palin, the vice presidential nominee for the McCain ticket. Riding the 'Straight Talk Express'. Telling us how it is. The Washington Outsider.
Straight up - I can't stand this politician. To me, she represents exactly what's wrong with American politics at the moment - that, somehow, without knowledge and intelligence, someone can rise to great political power, on the idea that the candidate is part of the masses.
It's ridiculous - I don't expect Joe the Plumber to operate our nuclear power plants. I desperately hope that there's someone in there with advanced knowledge and understanding of what's at stake.
Palin has appeared ridiculous for so many reasons, but perhaps the scariest moment is when she outright lied about the results from the Troopergate scandal.
Today's story is just another notch in the measuring stick of reasons to put her away: as Brian Beutler notes, Palin has a third grader's understanding of the Consitution, while Glenn Greenwald would rather say that it's so "dumb that it hurts".
This is what she said:
Regardless of the fact that Palin's attacks on Obama have been in desperation, at a desperate hour, instead of trying to convince voters that she's worthy of the highest office in the land, it's an awesomely bizarre statement, as incoherent as all her answers, but with a shocking revelation: she has less idea of what's she's talking about than we suspected.
The First Amendment says:
The only way to interpret this, in the context that Palin uses, is that the media should be ABSOLUTELY free to print negative attacks on politicians. It's one of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution, and one that the founding fathers saw was critical for a functioning democracy.

This is what she said:
“If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations,” Palin told host Chris Plante, “then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”
The First Amendment says:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
The only way to interpret this, in the context that Palin uses, is that the media should be ABSOLUTELY free to print negative attacks on politicians. It's one of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution, and one that the founding fathers saw was critical for a functioning democracy.
