Robert Downey Jr to play the ultimate Playboy

Robert Downey Jnr is Hugh Hefner?
Carving up the positive wave of praise for his portrayal of millionaire playboy turned superhero Tony Stark in the hit film Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr’s stock has risen and the character offers are flooding in. Among the more hopeful prospects is a biopic on the early years of the smoking jacket wearing bunny ear lovin’ founder of Playboy magazine, Hugh Hefner.
Tentatively titled “Playboy”, a report on the Chicago suntimes.com says that the deal and the film are still at the earliest stages of development. Downey Jr is wisely refusing to agree to anything until a screenplay is written and a Director officially attached.
Previously in the hands of party man Brett Ratner, the question of who will be in charge is critical to the project moving forward. The only certainty in this present scenario is that Ron Howard’s regular producer Brian Grazer has the rights and Hugh Hefner has given his approval for the one time Chaplin too portray him on camera.
It’s no secret that Downey has always been a versatile and dedicated actor. It’s also not news that his substance abuse and erratic behaviour almost lost him his career. That’s what makes his successful reincarnation as a bankable A Lister even more satisfying for fans who have appreciated his work from the start.
I hope this is just the beginning of Downey Jr landing more juicy roles that we can savour from our cinema seats.
