Powder kegs Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have re-teamed for a new cop saga titled “Righteous Kill”. Putting these two names together guarantees a degree of interest from many filmgoers and as each new teaser poster arrives anticipation has grown.
This week saw the release of the trailer for the film and thankfully it doesn’t reveal much of the plot but does get the pulse going.
Pacino side by side on the side of the law
In it the former Godfather stars play N.Y.P.D detectives partnered to track down a serial killer whose executions are laced with poetry and purpose.
Directed by Jon Avnet, whose most successful work to date is Fried Green Tomatoes. The rest of the cast includes the saucy Carla Gugino (Sin City), wild man John Leguizamo (Son of Sam) and grizzly Brian Dennehy (First Blood). Donnie Wahlberg (Band of Brothers) and rapper 50 cent also appear.

Pacino and De Niro have earned a reputation for tough characters, charismatic performances and no nonsense delivery. Previously appearing together in Michael Mann’s scorching thriller Heat, they memorably came face to face for one scene in a café and ever since we have wanted more.

Wether the script and atmosphere live up to the 1 minute 40 second trailer is anyone’s guess but for now its easy to enjoy the clip which gives us the pair playing out to “Sympathy for the Devil.”
