Resurrecting the Champ Trailer and poster
Another "based on a true story tale of heartfelt emotion" film that will drag itself out as long as it can before the protagonist triumphs over unbelievable odds or gain wisdom. Of course the plot will be tweaked for dramatic purposes (ironically usually losing the one bit of real life fact that made it interesting). Accompanied by a rousing musical score to tell us when we should be happy or sad and onion peeled performances with lines delivered through a chocked up throat.
This one is another tale of struggles for redemption and honesty with a homeless and ignored Samuel L Jackson(The Red Violin, Jungle Fever) as an ex boxing legend. Josh Hartnett (Virgin Suicides, The Faculty) is a sports writer who through meeting the one time champ is forced to reexamine his own life and relationships.
The quality supporting cast of Alan Alda (California Suite, The Four Seasons, MASH), David Paymer(Mumford, State and Main, Quiz Show) and Peter Coyote (Knife Fighter, Northfork, Bitter Moon) offer a glimmer of hope in this cliched sounding wanna be Disney flick that also sees Teri Hatcher turn up.
Fans of films like Remember the Titans will rejoice.
