New Red Sonja Teaser Poster
The idea of remaking the abhorrent Bridgette Nielsen starring Red Sonja film sounds like a reach, but that’s what Director Robert Rodriguez is doing. Actually that’s a fib, he is wisely ignoring the fantasy shambles original and has gone directly to the source.
The second teaser Poster - Better than the first?
At this point little is known about the tone and plot for the feature but it’s to be based on the writings of fantasy lord Robert E Howard, creator of Conan the Barbarian (Incidentally Arnold Schwarzenegger co starred in the original Sonja film).
The Red Sonja Comic
Teaming up with his Planet Terror/Barberella leading lady of the moment, Rodriguez has Rose McGowan as the iconic chainmail bikinied femme warrior. Though their off camera romance may have fizzled recently, the project is moving along on schedule and now we get our first glimpse at some promo artwork for the film.
Courtesy of the San Diego comic book convention, here are a pair of teaser posters that certainly catch the eye. I may have little interest in the finished product but still felt these pictures warranted sharing, after all don’t we all wish Red Sonja would come and rescue us from this online hell?

What are those broadswords made of ... tinfoil?!
Curiously, I just watched Soylent Green last night by the same director Richard Fleischer ... Seems he never rose above that inherent B-movie level.
As for Robert Rodriguez doing Red Sonja, well, hmmm. The poster art does look impressive, especially the second one. The first one's blood looks like jam.
What happened to Barbarella? Or is some one else doing that now?
