The prize for the stupidest looking film to arrive so far this year has to be Wanted. The new trailer is so camp and clunky it demanded a mention on this site. Based on an entertaining comic book that embraced the weird and wacky the film seems to have removed any trace of its sources originality.
You know a films going to be bad when it’s ripping off lines from Patrick Swayze’s Roadhouse, “I thought you’d be bigger”.

Wanted stars Angelina Jolie as an expert assassin who must train the son of a superhuman assassin (James McAvoy) in how to be an assassin. Morgan Freeman turns up as a mentor playing the same part he has ever since Se7en.
Ludicrous in the extreme this CG saturated clip that looks more appropriate for a TV show drops the F bomb once and has a typical bullet through the head shot that warrants its R rating.
Angie maybe hot but she has never made a movie that is worthwhile. McAvoy seems to be capitalising on his successes in Last King of Scotland and Atonement by playing the Hollywood game. Morgan is walking in his sleep and cashing cheques.

It’s sad that the Director of the brilliantly original Russian Vampire feast Nightwatch must enter the international arena with this type of low IQ slumming, but then isn’t that how the Hollywood game is played?
Gauging by what audiences dig, I’m sure this will be a massive hit film, inspire sequels and in 20 years get the remake treatment. Wanted opens July 31st in Australia.
