Suspiria: The Remake
That’s right folks. Proof conclusive that nothing is sacred in Hollywood, over on Bloody Disgusting they are reporting that there will be a remake of Dario Argento’s elaborate masterwork horror Suspiria.
Nothing has officially been announced and Natalie Portman’s (Leon the Professional, Beautiful Girls, Heat, Closer) publicist refuses to confirm, but it seems she will star in said folly. The guys at BD believe their sources to be reliable and they are often right.
Again just a non credited whisper at this stage, in the Director’s chair for Suspiria: The Remake is David Gordon Green (All the Real Girls, Pineapple Express).
I don’t know how they plan to compete with the dense atmosphere, manipulated cinematography, diabolical staging of death and pure cinema of the Argento original. There is something very unique and indefinable about Dario’s work that is impossible to replicate, or even homage. A frenzy of seemingly random set ups often visually staggering despite a plot that sometimes gets lost in its own divine darkness.
The Opening 10 minutes of Dario Argento's 1977 original Suspiria.
