Knight Rider loses its Gob

Val Kilmer is K.I.T.T.
The recycling of old 70’s shows into viable modern day television commodities is just as risky as doing it for film. For every exceeding of expectations like Battlestar Galactica there is an insult like the Starsky and Hutch movie.
Scheduled to premiere on U.S television February 17th the latest is that story of a talking car known as Knight Rider. The star of the show is a Shelby Mustang with Artificial Intelligence named K.I.T.T.
Knightrideronline.com reports that before the A.I Auto even gets to burn rubber the most inspired piece of casting is being rebuked. Will Arnett (Gob from Arrested Development) who has already recorded the voice work for the pilot movie now has had to pull out of the project due to a contractual conflict.
The conflict is that Arnett has been the voiceover dude on the General Motors GMC Truck ads for the last 10 years. Now with the sassy vehicle being manufactured by rivals Ford (think Coke vs Pepsi) a call was made from up on high.
From Knightrideronline.com, Arnett says:
"I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new 'Knight Rider' movie, however, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project."
Replacing Will Arnett in the role will be the Iceman himself Val Kilmer, (The Doors, Spartan, Thunderheart) who loaned his vocals to Moses in the animated adventure Prince of Egypt.
David Hasselhoff has a cameo as Michael Knight and the new driver is Mike Tracer (Justin Brueng). In the part of FBI agent Carrie Rivali is Death Proof’s ebony temptress Sydney Tamalia Poitier. (Click HERE to read an interview with Sydney)
Personally it looks like a case of nice ride, but no fluffy dice.

Losing Arnett is a huge blow.
Though I'm a fan of Val Kilmer (Thunderheart, Salton Sea, Kiss Kiss bang Bang etc) I don't see him being right for the voice of KITT...he just has a whisper quality that may not work.
Fingers crossed
