Remaking The Day The Earth Stood Still - The Apocalypse of Cinema as keanu Reeves keeps working
"Klaatu verata niktu"
Well its seems to be a crappy day all round for Hollywood news, first come reports that the studios are pussying up Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd and demanding they cut down the ketchup, which means the film immediately falls out of anticipated status and into missed opportunity.
As the system continues to commercialize art for mass consumption and regurgitate classic stories for empty profit, the latest blasphemy comes in the shape of a remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951).
A bonafide Science Fiction gem from the golden age of cinema, this intelligent slice of cold war propaganda served as a warning of mankinds impending self destruction and paranoia.
Now comes the news over on cinematical.com that Director Scott Derickson (Exorcism of Emily Rose) has cast Keanu Reeves as the sage humanoid alien Klaatu, bogus dude.
Now if you have too, and I mean have to keep giving the Canoe work then he should be playing the threateningly large robot Gort in the film.
The fact they are remaking this at all is a travesty and I can't even talk about it anymore...
