John Hurt Talks Indy IV

The whip is coming back

John Hurt is an actors, actor. He is a man who has never courted monumental fame as a leading man, instead eking out an eclectic film career ripe with memorable characters across most genres.

John Hurt is Abner Ravenwood??

Now cast in the latest escapades of imminent archaeologist Indiana Jones, rumours are abound that he is to play Abner Ravenwood, mentor to a youthful Jones and father of Indy’s Raiders sweetheart Marion.

During a recent interview with Premiere magazine the British thespian has discussed all that his secrecy clause allows about his on set experiences. Neither confirming, nor denying his role it is the comments he makes about Lucas and Spielberg that are most revealing.

When quizzed about working with Star Wars creator george Lucas he says:
“Occasionally. George is a bit socially crippled really. Not good with people. So I just left him alone.”

Reluctant to star in the franchise, Hurt didn’t jump at the opportunity as many would instead he says:
“I want to be careful here, because I don't want to make it sound as if I'm anti- the film — I'm not at all. But if I was asked what I would choose to do, it would be lightweight for me, at least for that sort of time commitment. But having accepted it, I enjoyed working with Steven hugely, and we had a great cast. I just wish we'd had something of fabulous interest between each other to act!”

john Hurt Alien
Is it something he ate?

For ever remembered as the cursed crew member of the Nostramo who’s violent demise comes at the hands of an inseminated Alien that bursts through his chest in a waterfall of blood. Equally recalled for his convincing portrayal of John Merrick in David Lynch’s The Elephant Man.

He is not an animal. He is a human being

Other notably appearances include Midnight Express, The Shout, Heaven’s Gate, 1984, The Proposition and Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. Hurt came to my notice with his meek turn in 10 Rillington Place (1971) making me a lifetime fan of his quirky, duplicitous charisma.
