Japanese version of We Are the World

Found on BoingBoing, another entry in the logbook of things made in Japan that are so weirdly interesting that I am compelled to post them.

An impersonation video, of a bunch of Japanese singers, imitating the feel-good charity hit, "We Are The World", helmed by Michael Jackson himself.

Is there a market for this in Japan? Are they covering all the English hits? Let me tell you, this would make the collected work of Lionel Ritchie, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion a lot more tolerable if it was all done by Japanese impersonators.

Why did they pick this song? Are they raising money for a cause?
