Karate Kid remake is preparing a Crane Kick Remake
For those lucky enough to have not heard, Hollywood is remaking the wax-on, wax-off 80’s white boy kung fu cult film The Karate Kid. Sorry to burst another nostalgic fortune cookie. After little speculation, this week it was announced that the always cheery Jackie Chan (Cop Story, Drunken Master, Armour of God) will play the sage, martial arts mentor Mr Miyagi.
Pretty much the Yoda of the original saga, his iconic words of wisdom form the most quotable parts of the original film.

In the Directors chair is Harald Zwart (One Night At McCools, Agent Cody Banks), whose filmography promises little, but then the inspiration wasn’t exactly ground breaking cinema. Sure, I was 14 years old in 1984 and was “sanding da fwa” and “painting da fense” like everyone else. The sentimental appeal has never diminished.
What the original Karate Kid was is a well timed roundhouse kick that was released at a time when the mystery and fascination for martial arts was peaking with children throughout the Western world.
So is anyone counting the days till Cobra Kie are crane kicked in the face?
