The Jim Henson Story - Film in the Works.
For certain people of a certain era when the word genius gets bandied about in casual conversation the name Jim Henson is guaranteed to arise. Creator, writer, Director, Actor and maestro Puppeteer on the likes of The Muppets, Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street, The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.
ComingSoon.net is reporting that the relatively new Distributor Empire Film Group has given a script by Robert D Slane titled Henson has been given a Kermit the Frog green light.
From the ComingSoon.net post:
"This is a major project about an entertainer of legendary stature and worldwide acclaim," said Dean Hamilton-Bornstein, CEO of Empire Film Group. "The script is superb and should provide a terrific roadmap for a completed film that will satisfy both mainstream audiences and critics. We're very excited about this acquisition and the commercial caliber of this project."
"Jim Henson is one of the best known and most beloved entertainers of all time," said Parkinson. "His story is inspiring, tragic, heartwarming and epic, and will make for an important and entertaining motion picture. This is the sort of movie that Empire will be pursuing as we build the company into a leading independent studio."
Tracing the life of the man from teenaged dreamer to industry revolutionary, the Empire Film Group is now looking for a major Director to yell “Action” and “Cut”.
Personally I think what Henson bought to popular entertainment was a style that knew no age boundary, appealed to young and old equally with humour that came down to perspective. Kids laughed at one thing while the grown ups appreciated the carefully balanced parodies and amplifying of classic talent.
All I can say to the idea of a movie is “YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY” (While waving hands in the air in that Kermit way.)
