Gwyneth Paltrow isn't African

This little Gwyneth poster ad is part of a promotional thing for keepachildalive.org campaign which appeared in the supplementary of the September issue of Vanity Fair which is causing a bit of controversy on the internet.
People are upset that they have put on a few beads and splashed some face paint on her and ran the picture with an 'I AM AFRICAN' caption, making it the most ironic thing ever because you can't get any whiter or waspier than Gwyneth Paltrow.
I don't have a problem with the entire ad in general, because it is what it is - an ad which will make people sit up and take notice of it (whether or not for good or bad reasons). Perhaps it could have employed a little bit more taste, like substituting Gwyneth for Charlize Theron. Now, that would make a whole lot more sense and actually make the whole thing work.
