Snatching Sherlock Holmes
The once great now sadly shackled to Madonna Brit Director Guy Ritchie showed promise with his crime caper comedies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch before falling from grace with (said in whisper) Swept Away.
Now attempting to regain some credibility Ritchie has returned to the arena of gangsters and guns in dirty dealings with RocknRolla. Starring Gerard Butler and Jeremy Piven, early footage must be alright because Warner Brothers has come forward and offered Guy the opportunity to reinvent the Sherlock Holmes franchise.
Taking away much of the Baker Street Detectives book-wormish qualities and turning the master of “deductive reasoning” into a man of action and adventure, Indiana Holmes anyone? “Dumbest idea everrrr” as comic guy would say in the Simpsons.
Currently fine tuning the screenplay which was inturn based on a comic book, this really sounds like another case of missing a classic characters main attraction (intellectual detective) in favour of trying to be hip.
