If like me your fragile little mind was warped as youth by the advent of Joe Dante’s 80’s family horror Gremlins, then the idea of them peddling British Telecom in an Advertising campaign may trigger an insatiable urge to pop a cat in a microwave.

Proof that anything of nostalgic value from our childhood is a tradable commodity. Brit Actor Peter Jones who starred in the series Dragon’s Den features in the commercial. In the new campaign the vicious little former Mogwai’s indulging in after hour’s mischief in an office.
Employing old school puppeteering techniques instead of indulging in CGI laziness is a credit to the makers, but still the obvious humour and lazy salutes to its inspiration grate during the spots running time.
This is obviously not the first time that characters that shaped the adult geek boys of today have been exploited for product awareness. This latest addition has me wondering what’s next, a Goonies adventure promoting Getaway Travel destinations, or The Dark Crystal Gelfling’s singing the praises of Angus & Coote Jewellers?
