Classic shot of Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby has always been around, it seems... as far as I can remember, he was on TV, summoning up deep belly laughs from the population.
Now, the old comedian is over 70 and has just put out a rap album.
This old photo shows the Cos in a moment of early contemplation... though he would go on to star and produce an award winning comedy show, The Cosby Show, he struggled to find ratings in his early career.
This photo makes it look like the Cos was thinking of getting out of the biz, packing it in and starting a different career. He was in the navy, he finished graduate work at U. Mass. - he could get out there and work as a teacher or return to the navy.
Luckily for those little anklebiters like myself, Cosby stuck with it, failing at a few movies, but coming back strong with a family oriented TV show.
Cosby would end up being phased out by popular culture, supplanted by the raw comics: Eddie Murphy and his like, followed by Chris Rock - but they'd all come around, right? Murphy definitely sold out his bad boy image to do family-friendly fare and so has Rock, now.
I suppose the most endearing quality of Cosby is that he was consistent... providing a great image for kids from Day 1 and never faltering. Even now, going back to watch The Cosby Show, I realize just how funny it is, but also that it provides an excellent role model for families.
Let's go out and get that rap album.
