It's not easy aging... it's a horrible truth that we all have to face, and it's not any easier by our popular culture, that glorifies youth into this mirage of hedonism and wild, reckless living.
Yeah, it's not easy getting older. You run a little slower, you put on more weight, it takes longer for you to transform into a human torch, etc.
At least I have the good fortune of being a regular guy, getting older in a regular way.
The people that have it the worst are the 'attractive' ones... you know, the male model on your football team, the prettiest girl in class. They've grown up in a universe where their combination of facial features is considered beautiful, and to have that robbed by the cruel mistress, Time, seems unjust.
And if you're a celebrity star with limited talent, coasting on how much guys want to 'do you', aging is the death knell of your career.
Exhibit #1: Britney Spears in 1998-1999, after her hit single, 'Hit Me Baby, One More Time', sporting a look that would make most American men fantasize about doing something that would get them thrown in jail
Exhibit #2: Britney Spears after the year 2000, shedding her wholesome American princess image and going the slutty route. Singing 'I'm a Slave 4 U' and kissing Madonna onstage. The peak of her popularity, selling out stadiums and having people listen to whatever nonsense she could dream up.
Exhibit #3: A picture taken a few days ago, catching Spears outside of her cave without any makeup on, and without hair extensions. It's a terrifying reality and reminds us that celebrities are real people with real flaws...
What is the real villain of this story? Years of makeup taking its toll on Spears' skin? Yes, but even worse is the army of Photoshoppers working for the magazines, creating a flawless digital version of Britney in every magazine and photo op.

Re Britney, there was a time when I really liked Britney. At the time the media pitted Britney against Christina, I was rooting for the former. Now, everytime I come across old articles of her professing she's a virgin, I gag.
