Leo, Crowe and Scott take on Middle Eastern intrigue and espionage
Filmmaker Ridley Scott is one the great modern visual storytellers. Sure he has never matched his dual masterpieces Alien and Blade Runner, but even his blandest films are still stunning to look at (Eg: American Gangster).
Scott’s latest film Body of Lies is written by William Monahan (The Departed) and stars Leonardo DiCaprio (Basketball Diaries) and regular collaborator Russel Crowe (The Insider) who starred in Ridley’s Gladiator, A Good Year and American Gangster pulls out the hair dye. Bringing some erotic energy is Carice van Houten (Black Book). Australia’s Vince Colosimo (Underbelly, Lantana) also appears.
Based on the best selling novel by David Ignatius, Body of Lies tells the story of an injured journalist (DiCaprio) whose time in Iraq sees him recruited by the CIA (Russell Crowe) to track down a high level Al Qaeda leader, this thriller promises to dwell in the grey area of terrorism and its combatants.
The first trailer for the film has just arrived and with a release date of October 2008 is already garnering Awards season buzz.
